A practical request led to a tailored version of our ventilated disused chimney cap—helping protect unused chimney pots while discouraging birds from settling on top.
The customer’s request
A simple question with a useful solution
A customer got in touch because they needed to protect a group of disused chimney pots and wanted an additional way to discourage birds from landing and perching on the caps.
They asked whether bird spikes could be added to our Disused Chimney Cap with Bird Spikes. The answer was yes. The finished installation brings the two requirements together in one neat, colour-coordinated solution.

The chimney pots were no longer in use, but they still needed appropriate ventilation and protection from weather and debris.
Adding bird deterrence
Spikes were incorporated around the caps to make the flat upper surfaces less inviting for birds to land and perch on.
Keeping the finish consistent
The terracotta finish was selected to sit naturally with the existing red chimney pots and provide a tidy, coordinated appearance.

Why combine a disused chimney cap with bird spikes?
A disused chimney should not simply be sealed shut. A purpose-designed cap helps protect the opening while retaining the ventilation an unused flue normally needs.
